Character Design

I was commissioned to design a cute alien girl named Bee! The client requested a character sheet in my “cute” style: a full body shot and three head shots. After receiving a description of the desired appearance (pigtails, chaotic outfit, skin painted to look like human skin), I sketched them out in a few different outfits and poses.

The client liked the pose of the middle sketch, but a mix of the outfits of the middle and right. I then did one final sketch with the requested outfit and pose, which the client approved.
Next is deciding on the flat colors! I played around with these two options, but neither seemed right. The outfit was supposed to clash and be chaotic, but these were too hard on the eyes.

After figuring out the colors, I did the line art and rendering! I then drew and finished the headshots, and created a fun alien background for the character sheet. Here is the final product! :)

These are my first designs of a protagonist for a plant-themed video game idea I have, called GREENHOUSE! I wanted Lance to be a young character and very cute, but also knightly. I took inspiration from the forget-me-not flower. I eventually went with the third from the left.

Here are some color schemes I played around with. I decided that the middle was the most readable.

The final design of Lance, next to the final design of the antagonist, a sunflower prince! (He’s unnamed so far, haha.)
